[Course]: Real-Time Monitoring and Control of Water Cycle Systems

Next Wednesday, November the 30th, Prof. Vicenç Puig from Polytechnical University of Cataluña, will impart the first session of the course “Real – Time Monitoring and Control of water Cycle System”. The course will be held at classroom 3 at Escuela de Ingenierias Industriales – Sede Dr. Mergelina. First session will start at 4 p.m. Schedule for the second and third sessions will be set subsequently.

Management of water cycle systems in urban areas faces new challenges in the real-time operation systems due to limited water resources in certain geographic areas, energy costs associated to the population growthing, maintenance costs and new environmental regulations, among others. These challenges mean that system managers need to have real-time monitoring and control systems that use the latest advances in information and communications technology to be able to address them efficiently.

This course presents a set of recent methods for real-time monitoring and control of the systems that are part of the water cycle. The methods and tools to be presented cover the following aspects: optimum real-time control, sensor validation and reconstruction, leak detection, diagnosis and tolerant control. The use of these methods and tools will be illustrated with real cases.

  • Introduction.
  • Simulation and control models.
  • Sensor validation and reconstruction.
  • Optimum control in real time.
  • Troubleshooting
  • Tolerant control
